Montréal to host the 10th World Biomaterials Congress in 2016

MONTREAL, June 16 /CNW Telbec/ - The Palais des congrès is proud to
announce that Montréal will be the site of the 10th World Biomaterials
Congress in May 2016. The event is expected to attract some 3 500 delegates
from the International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and
Engineering (IUSBSE) as well as 80 exhibitors, and to generate over $8 million
in economic spin-offs for the city.
Palais President and CEO Paul Saint-Jacques credits "the convention
centre's capacity to host events of scale and Montréal's reputation as a safe
city as key factors in the IUSBSE's decision to award their world congress,
which grows increasingly popular, to Montréal. We look forward to contributing
our teams' know-how to this major event, and to contributing to its success in
the process." Montréal is the 2nd Canadian city to host the congress, with
previous host cities including Vienna, Washington, Kyoto, Sydney and
Amsterdam.
The Canadian Biomaterials Society (CBS), the congress' organizing host,
is a founding member of the IUSBSE, whose members from all over the world are
dedicated to the advancement of biomaterials science and technology. The
intellectual spin-offs from this event are highly promising. According to
Professor J. Michael Lee, who sits on the CBS board of directors and chaired
the IUSBSE from 2000 to 2004, "the 10th World Biomaterials Congress will mark
40 years of international collaboration developing top quality, safer and
better performing surgical implants. Canada has been a key player in this
venture from the outset. Given the revolutionary changes in natural organ and
tissue reconstruction made possible thanks to biomaterials, the 2016 world
congress promises to be a historic event for Canadian scientists and
clinicians, as well as a showcase for technologies that will transform patient
care forever. I think it is important that we seize this opportunity to
emphasize the advancements Canada is contributing to this field, and to
welcome the world's most reputable scientists and engineers to this
extraordinary city."
