Montréal International launches new Chinese Web site

MAYOR OF MONTREAL INVITES CHINESE INVESTORS TO CREATE PARTNERSHIPS IN
    THE REGION

MONTREAL, Nov. 1 /CNW Telbec/ - At a conference lunch attended by some
100 dignitaries and CEOs from Shanghai, Mayor of Montréal and President of the
Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal, Mr. Gérald Tremblay, promoted the
competitive advantages of Montréal and invited Chinese investors to forge
business links with the companies, institutions and universities of the
metropolitan region.
The Mayor, who is currently leading an economic mission to Shanghai and
Chengdu, took advantage of this opportunity to officially launch the new
Chinese version of the Montréal International (MI) Web site, which highlights
the creativity, innovation and dynamism of the region. Chinese investors
looking for a location will therefore benefit from a host of information on
the highly competitive investment climate of Greater Montréal, including its
advantageous operating costs, generous R&D incentive measures, high-technology
clusters, qualified labour, access to venture capital and proximity to large
markets.
"This new site provides Greater Montréal with an additional lever to
increase its attractiveness to the Chinese business community, with which our
companies are increasingly creating partnerships," said Mr. Tremblay. "Our
region is unique and complementary to that of other large urban centres
throughout the world. Based on our know-how and pursuing our activities to
consolidate key sectors of the new economy, we will be in a position to make
Montréal into a modern and capable, knowledge-based city of the 21st century,"
added Mr. Tremblay.
According to Dave Murphy, Vice-President, International Organizations and
responsible for prospecting in China at MI, the promotional efforts deployed
by the Montréal delegation give potential investors a better understanding of
the business opportunities in the region. "Our new Web site helps reinforce
the positioning of Greater Montréal in China, which is now one of the main
territories targeted by MI through its promotional and prospecting activities
for foreign investment," explained Mr. Murphy. "It is essential to forge solid
links with this booming market, particularly in the context of the
globalization of the economy," he added.
The approach of MI in the Asian market is based on the work of a team of
prospectors fully dedicated to this market, and close cooperation with a
network of specialists having leading-edge experience in the development of
business relationships.
The Chinese version of the Montréal International Web site, as well as
promotional fact sheets, are both available at
