Montréal international honored by the International Economic Development Council

MONTREAL, Sept. 25 /CNW Telbec/ - The International Economic Development
Council (IEDC) has recognized Montréal International with an Honorable Mention
for a promotional event organized last February and aimed at promoting Greater
Montréal to foreign diplomats. The organization received its award at IEDC's
Annual Conference, which took place in Phoenix, Arizona, September 16-19,
2007.
"Economic development efforts have always played a vital role in shoring
up North America's economy, one locality at a time," said Ronnie L. Bryant,
IEDC chairman. "As we continue to face the challenge of flourishing in an
ever-changing and increasingly competitive marketplace, these efforts have
taken on an even greater importance. The award serves as a salute to
pacesetting organizations like Montréal International for leading the charge."
Competing in the category of Special Event by organizations serving areas
with populations exceeding 200,000, Montréal International was a clear
standout. In collaboration with the Department of Foreign Affairs and
International Trade Canada, Montréal International hosted a group of
25 foreign diplomats from February 7 to 9, 2007 for a familiarization tour on
the advantages of Greater Montréal. The purpose of this event was to make
Greater Montréal's assets in two of its high tech sectors (life sciences and
aerospace) better known by means of presentations and industrial visits. The
tour created keen interest among all participants, several of whom indicated
they had learned a lot about the expertise and advantages offered by the
Montréal region in the two sectors presented, as well as established numerous
contacts with key stakeholders among world leaders.
"We are proud to see that this event is considered one of the best by our
peers in North America. This project benefited from the constant efforts of
the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, and
particularly of Marie-Lucie Morin, Deputy Minister of International Trade. The
result of this fruitful collaboration could very well give rise to numerous
partnership possibilities between stakeholders from the Montréal region and
those from the countries represented," declared Pierre Brunet, Chairman of the
Board of Directors of Montréal International.
