Montréal International and Pôle Québec Chaudière-Appalaches conclude a strategic partnership agreement to cooperate on economic development of the Montréal and Québec areas

MONTREAL, May 21 /CNW Telbec/ - Mr. André Gamache, Montréal International
(MI) President and CEO and Mr. Carl Viel, POLE Québec Chaudière-Appalaches
President and CEO are pleased to announce the conclusion of a strategic
partnership agreement between the two organizations in order to cooperate on
the economic development of Greater Montréal and the Québec
Chaudière-Appalaches economic region.
"Several factors led to the conclusion of this agreement. POLE and MI are
two players at the forefront of economic development who share a common vision
of their roles and contribution within each of their respective areas,"
declared Mr. Gamache. "Ever-increasing global competition requires greater
cooperation between organizations in Québec and Canada in order to share their
know-how, optimize resource use and increase group efficiency of local
actions."
This agreement provides specifically for a joint approach to development
efforts and cooperation in carrying out joint projects, including studies
dealing with common issues, as well as the organization of sectorial promotion
activities and the attraction of international investments, including foreign
missions. A joint mission was recently carried out with American businesses
located in New York City. Finally, the agreement also concerns sharing
strategic information and management and better business practices expertise.
"The agreement is meant to reinforce the means available to our
respective organizations in order to better fulfill our mandates. But beyond
the direct advantages for our teams, all the companies and the population of
the Montréal, Québec and Chaudière-Appalaches regions will benefit from the
results of this partnership," stated Mr. Viel. "Since the combined Greater
Montréal and Québec Chaudière-Appalaches economic area make up 62% of the
population and 68 % of the Québec's GNP, the entire province will benefit."
The management teams of MI and POLE will meet soon in order to agree on
the next joint actions and plan the next steps of implementing the partnership
agreement.
According to Mr. Raymond Bachand, Québec Minister of Finance, Minister of
Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade, and Minister responsible
for the Montréal region, "The current economic situation only reinforces my
conviction that it is essential to rally the forces of our respective
environments in order to position Québec and immediately prepare for strong
and enduring recovery. This period of economic turbulence must represent an
opportunity for change and a mobilization period. This mobilization encourages
the exchange of ideas, promotes innovation and increases our chances to set an
example for facing emerging countries. This announcement is a good example of
this conviction and will make it possible for Montréal and Québec to bounce
back after the storm, united and stronger, which is good for the entire Québec
economy."
For the Minister of Employment and Social Solidarity and Minister
responsible for the Capitale-Nationale region, Mr. Sam Hamad, "This strategic
alliance between two major stakeholders of economic development marks the
beginning of a promising era of cooperation for the regions of Québec and
Montréal. During this economic period characterized by numerous challenges,
the regions must avoid being isolated. They have to reinforce their
partnerships by combining their respective strengths and distinctiveness, as
is seen in the agreement announced."
