Montréal hosts the 89th Annual Optimist International Convention from July 4 to 7, 2007

MONTREAL, June 21 /CNW Telbec/ - From July 4 to 7, Montréal will host the
89th Annual Optimist International Convention, a major international volunteer
organization that helps children develop self-worth and be the best they can.
The four days of meetings, conferences, workshops and training will be held at
the Palais des congrès and will bring together more than 1,500 delegates and
some 25 exhibitors.
"We are very proud and pleased to welcome members of Optimist
International to our beautiful city," says Charles Lapointe, President and CEO
of Tourisme Montréal. "Their honourable mission of helping children develop to
their full potential mirrors the values of all Montrealers as well as those of
the entire population of Québec. In fact, the figures speak for themselves:
nearly 40 Optimist Clubs exist in the Québec South District alone. And, of
course, members of Montréal's tourism industry are feeling 'optimistic' too,
since this 89th Convention is expected to generate economic spin-offs of more
than $2.6 million," adds Mr. Lapointe.

Since 1919, Optimist Clubs have been "Bringing Out the Best in Kids" by
meeting the needs of young people in communities worldwide. In addition to
developing 65,000 service projects for over six million young people each
year, Optimist volunteers organize an array of activities whose goal is to
foster friendship among youth by providing them with the tools to grow and
achieve their best. There are close to 105,000 individual members who belong
to more than 3,200 autonomous Optimist Clubs.
