Montréal and Laval Go Green - Sonic Now Offering Biofuel in Five of its Service Stations

MONTREAL, June 3 /CNW Telbec/ - Since April, Sonic has been offering
biodiesel in five of its Montreal and Laval service stations, thus confirming
its leadership in the field of biofuels. In fact. Sonic is the first in the
Quebec oil industry to respond to both government and public expectations in
terms of access to renewable energy, which is considered to be less polluting.
In this respect, biodiesel is acknowledged for its contribution to reducing
greenhouse gasses.
This is not the first time Sonic has introduced biofuel to the
popularion. In fact, Sonic has been offering biofuel in the des Bois-Francs
area, and more specifically in Victoriaville, since May 23, 2007. It is
therefore the first gas station to provide biodiesel to Quebec motorists. For
a little over one month, motorists from Montreal and Laval have had the
opportunity to fuel up with biofuel at five Sonic service stations in their
area. Furthermore, over the next few months, Sonic will be offering biofuel in
97 of its service stations in Quebec.
Biodiesel is a type of fuel made from renewable resources (recycled
vegetable and frying oils and animal fat) and can be used to replace all or
some of the diesel fuel used to operate diesel engines. Because of Quebec's
unique climate, biodiesel is most often mixed with standard diesel according
to the following proportions: 2% (B2), 5% (B5) and 20% (B20).
Biodiesel has proven itself many times over throughout the years. When
compared with standard diesel, biodiesel produces similar results yet releases
less pollutants into the atmosphere.
As early as 1994, Sonic took on a leadership role in Quebec in terms of
renewable fuels by providing ethanol gas to the province's motorists. Sonic
was the first oil company to introduce ethanol fuel and coloured biodiesel in
Quebec, the latter fuel is commonly used by farmers while the former is
intended for automobiles. Sonic has a network of 185 service stations located
all over the Quebec landscape. Almost half of these stations currently provide
ethanol gas. Sonic offers its clients a variety of products, such as propane,
gas with or without ethanol, white or coloured diesel, heating oil, lubricants
and a complete range of heating equipment. Sonic, the green alternative!
