MLSE to Use Text Messaging to Leave No Shift Unfilled

TORONTO, Dec. 19 /CNW/ - Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment Ltd (MLSE),
owner of the NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs, NBA's Toronto Raptors and Air Canada
Centre, one of North America's premier and busiest sports and entertainment
venues, has selected Vortex Mobile's Shiftex platform to improve staff
scheduling and workforce management. Shiftex will aid in managing the
schedules of Air Canada Centre's 1,700 event staff including ushers, food and
beverage servers and gate attendants.
Shiftex, Vortex's patent-pending shift resolution tool, uses text
messaging (SMS), email and interactive voice recordings (IVR) to resolve last
minute shift cancellations in an efficient and equitable manner. Managers use
Shiftex to alert staff of shift openings by broadcasting the shift details to
relevant and available staff. The first employee to respond to an alert claims
the shift and the manager is notified by SMS. The shift status is also updated
in the platform's client interface.
"Shiftex is a one-of-a-kind platform. This is an innovative,
revolutionary, product," says Sasha Puric, MLSE's Director of Information
Technology. "Shiftex will further enhance our efforts to provide exceptional
service to Air Canada Centre guests because the platform ensures reduced
staffing shortages and service gaps."
Puric added that Shiftex will enable scheduling managers to spend more
time supporting event staff because addressing scheduling gaps will become
less time consuming.
The benefits are not only on the management side. Mobile technology and
SMS messaging allow employees to receive shift notifications in seconds no
matter where they are. Motivated employees can increase their income by
picking up additional shifts and companies will see increased productivity and
employee satisfaction.
"With a well-defined link between reducing customer wait times and
increased sales revenue, Shiftex has tremendous potential for workforce
management & customer service standards," says Adrian Schauer, Vortex's
co-founder and managing partner. "It can be a frustrating experience for
managers and employees to cover an unfilled shift, just as it can be
frustrating for customers to face long waits or flustered staff."
Managers can filter by job type, skill requirements and employee
preferences, prioritize by seniority for unionized environments and assign
unique codes to each shift alert allowing them to track results over time and
generate reports on shift acceptance and cancellations.
