to announce that its next generation satellite technology has been installed
in a GSM base station in the Himalayan Mountain Range as part of China
Mobile's initiative to provide video coverage of the upcoming Beijing Olympic
The base station, located at an elevation of 20,000 feet, will provide
local cellular service and video transmission of the Beijing Olympic Torch
Relay as it crosses the Himalayas, one of the highest points on Earth. Mitec's
technology will support mobile service for future expeditions to this region.
Mitec's ten watt satellite band block up converter with frequency shift key
technology will be an integral backhaul component of the GSM base station.
Mitec's block upconverter technology can operate in temperatures below minus
30 degrees Celsius.
