Minister of Transport Reinforces Federal Commitment to Public Transit



    QUEBEC, Nov. 12 /CNW/ - Speaking at the Canadian Urban Transit
Association's fall conference in Québec City today, Federal Minister of
Transport, Infrastructure and Communities Lawrence Cannon reiterated his
commitment that transit is a key national priority. The minister also outlined
the funding programs that support transit projects including the recently
announced details of the Building Canada Fund.
    Following the Minister's speech, CUTA President and CEO Michael Roschlau
proposed that the association organize a National Transit Forum. Minister
Cannon supported the concept and reiterated his commitment to ongoing
partnerships with transit stakeholders.
    "CUTA looks forward to working in collaboration with the minister in
furthering our vision for a National Transit Strategy," says CUTA Chair Penny
Williams.

    CUTA is the voice for enhancing the public transit industry in Canada.
Association members include public transit systems, suppliers to the industry,
government agencies, individuals and related organizations in Canada.
