Minister Lunn Appoints President of Cape Breton Development Corporation



    OTTAWA, March 5 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of
Natural Resources, today announced the appointment of Dr. Ross McCurdy as
President of the Cape Breton Development Corporation.
    "I am pleased to confirm Dr. McCurdy in this position," said Minister
Lunn. "His knowledge, experience and dedication to community health and
science make him an excellent choice. I am confident that he will fulfil his
responsibilities effectively and diligently."
    Dr. McCurdy, a Halifax resident, has been Executive Vice-President and
Chief Operating Officer of Ocean Nutrition Canada since 2004. Prior to that,
he was President and CEO of InNOVAcorp, a provincial Crown corporation
mandated to help Nova Scotian companies commercialize new technologies. He has
also held senior positions with MDS Environmental Services Inc., Fenwick
Laboratories Limited and Victoria General Hospital, Atlantic Canada's largest
teaching hospital.
    Dr. McCurdy holds a Bachelor of Science from Saint Mary's University,
Master's degrees in Public Health and in Science from the University of
Minnesota, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Water Resources Engineering from the
Technical University of Nova Scotia.
    The Cape Breton Development Corporation was formed by an Act of
Parliament in 1967 to conduct coal mining and related operations in the Sydney
coalfield. It is wholly owned by the Government of Canada. In 2000, the
Corporation was authorized by Parliament to divest itself of its assets and
dissolve. The Board continues to oversee this process of winding up the
corporate affairs.
