OTTAWA, March 7 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of
Health, is pleased to announce the reappointment of Sean Casey and the
appointment of Alec Farquhar to the Council of Governors of the Hazardous
Materials Information Review Commission (HMIRC) for three-year terms.
"I am confident that Mr. Casey and Mr. Farquhar will be strong assets to
the Hazardous Materials Information Review Commission. The experience they
both bring to the Commission will contribute to achieving its mandate of
protecting both workers as well as trade secrets in Canada's chemical
industry," said Minister Clement.
Mr. Casey is reappointed as the representative of Newfoundland and
Labrador on the Council. He currently serves as the province's Senior
Industrial Hygienist and has extensive experience in matters relating to
safety planning, chemical hazards and emergency response projects. Mr. Casey
has a Graduate Diploma in Industrial Hygiene from the University of Toronto
and is a Certified Public Health Inspector.
Mr. Farquhar is appointed as the Ontario representative on the Council of
Governors. He has a law degree from the University of Toronto and is currently
Director of Occupational Health and Safety at the Ministry of Labour in
Toronto. Alec Farquhar has worked in the field of workplace dispute resolution
and occupational wellness for over 25 years and has a keen interest in young
worker health and safety and re-employment of disabled persons.
The Hazardous Materials Information Review Commission was created as an
independent agency in 1987 by proclamation of the Hazardous Materials
Information Review Act and is accountable to the Parliament of Canada through
the Minister of Health.
