Miners Protest Industry Minister Letting Xstrata off the Hook

HUNTSVILLE, ON, Feb. 20 /CNW/ - Hundreds of miners from Sudbury's Xstrata
Mine Mill will demonstrate on the doorsteps of Industry Minister Tony
Clement's Huntsville constituency office today in protest of the minister's
role in letting Xstrata out of its takeover agreement.
The February 9 layoff of 686 Xstrata workers was a direct violation of
the company's takeover agreement from its 2006 purchase of the mine from
Falconbridge. The agreement stipulated that no layoffs would occur for three
years, which means no layoffs should have occurred before the end of July
2009.
CAW President Ken Lewenza will speak at the demonstration which is
scheduled to start at 11:15

    Demonstration today (February 20) at 11:15 a.m.-1 p.m.
    202 Main Street West
    Huntsville, ON
    P1H 1X9

The workers are represented by CAW Local 598.
