Military communications in Mauricie, Centre-du-Québec and Montérégie

    VALCARTIER GARRISON, QC, March 30 /CNW Telbec/ - From March 31 to
April 5, approximately 100 troops will spread out in the municipalities of
Trois-Rivières and Shawinigan in Mauricie, Drummondville and Victoriaville in
Centre-du-Québec, and Sorel-Tracy in Montérégie to practise their
radiocommunications skills.
Equipped with some 50 specialized vehicles, the soldiers, members of
Headquarters and Signals Squadron (HQ & Sig Sqn), will raise their mobile
communication system in the areas in question. They will then try to quickly
and effectively establish an urban radiocommunications network.
This off-garrison exercise is an additional challenge for the soldiers,
who will have the opportunity to improve their techniques and update their
procedures. They will not use weapons or ammunition to accomplish their work.
A majority of the HQ & Sig Sqn members taking part in this exercise will
deploy to Kandahar, Afghanistan, in August 2007. In Afghanistan, the soldiers
will use the same type of vehicles and equipment as during the exercise.

In mid-exercise, the troops will welcome media representatives in the
Expo parking lot of Trois-Rivières, at 1740 Gilles-Villeneuve Avenue, on
April 2, 2007, from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.

HQ & Sig Sqn is a unit of 5 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group based at
Valcartier, QC. Its signals members' mission is to ensure the transmission of
data between commanders and troops in combat.
