Mercedes-Benz Canada reports best July ever with gains of 54.4%



    TORONTO, Aug. 1 /CNW/ - Mercedes-Benz Canada reported today its best July
ever with a total of 2,309 units registered for the month. This is up 814
units or 54.4% compared to July 2007, and brings the year-to-date total to
14,434 units; an increase of 28.8% compared to last year at this time.
    A total of 1,807 Mercedes-Benz vehicles were delivered in July. This
represents the best July ever, a gain of 631 units or a 53.7% increase
compared to July 2007 and pushes year-to-date growth to 29.4%. A total of 502
smart fortwos were sold in July, ahead by 57.4% vis-à-vis July 2007. This
represents the best July ever for smart and brings the year-to-date total to
2,466 units, up 26.3% from this time last year.
    Very strong B-Class, C-Class, SL-Class, M-Class and GL-Class model sales
contributed to July's success. The next generation C-Class continued to be an
outstanding seller, ahead 175.6% from this time last year. Retail deliveries
of the M-Class were up an impressive 120.6%, totaling 386 units for July, and
GL-Class deliveries also remained strong and showed a gain of 20.5% for the
month. The company's diesel sales ratio was 64.5% for the month while the
permanent all-wheel drive 4MATIC(TM) units accounted for 59.2% of the overall
passenger car and light truck sales (excluding smart).
    Total Mercedes-Benz passenger car sales of 1304 units were ahead by 479
units, a 58.1% gain for the month and up 32.1% on a year-to-date basis.
    On the luxury light truck side, the M-Class, R-Class and GL-Class
performed very well again in July with 503 sales and a gain of 43.3% compared
to July 2007 results. Light trucks have shown a growth of 21.1% so far this
year with 2,788 units delivered.
    On the pre-owned side, the company reported 616 Mercedes-Benz units
delivered for the month of July, up 77 units from July 2007 and bringing the
year to date total to 4,297 units which represents an increase of 18%.
