TORONTO, June 2 /CNW/ - With a total of 2,344 Mercedes-Benz vehicles
delivered to customers throughout the month, Mercedes-Benz Canada reported
today that May was the best month in history for the Mercedes-Benz brand. This
record-breaking result represents a 6.9% increase over May 2008 and a 16.5%
increase year-to-date. In addition, a total of 178 smart fortwos were sold,
bringing total combined deliveries to 2,522 units. Combined year-to-date sales
have already surpassed the 10,000 mark with 10,260 vehicles delivered at the
end of May; a 6.8% increase compared to this time last year.
Strong B-Class, C-Class, E-Class, CL-Class, GLK-Class, M-Class, GL-Class
and R-Class model sales contributed to May's success. With 681 units
delivered, the C-Class sustained interest among consumers and maintained the
impressive momentum it has posted since its launch. The GLK-Class also
remained an exceptionally popular choice in the premium mid-size SUV segment
with 555 units retailed in May.
Overall, the luxury light truck side reported significant gains for the
month with 966 units delivered. A total of 3,705 units have been delivered
year-to-date, ahead 102.3% vis-à-vis last year at this time.
The diesel sales ratio was 59.1% for the month, while permanent all-wheel
drive 4MATIC(TM) units accounted for 75.2% of the overall passenger car and
light truck sales (excluding smart).
Pre-owned Mercedes-Benz sales reported an 8.2% increase and their best
month ever with 765 vehicles delivered in May. On a year-to-date basis, 3,036
units have been sold.
"It is always rewarding to welcome new customers to the Mercedes-Benz and
smart family, and also very exciting to see existing customers continue to put
their faith in our vehicles," said Marcus Breitschwerdt, President and CEO of
Mercedes-Benz Canada. "Significant growth on the luxury light trucks side
further demonstrates that the GLK-Class was an outstanding addition that
strengthens our already impressive roster of premium SUVs. In addition, the
busy summer driving season is an optimal time for consumers to enjoy the many
benefits offered by our collection of BlueTEC SUVs including extraordinary
range and excellent pulling and towing power."
