Media preview for new web resource on antibiotic resistance

    HALIFAX, March 12 /CNW/ - Notification of webcast event:
    The Canadian Antimicrobial Resistance Alliance (CARA) will unveil a new
web resource at the Association of Medical Microbiology and Infectious Disease
(AMMI) Canada and The Canadian Association for Clinical Microbiology and
Infectious Diseases (CACMID) Annual Conference in Halifax, on March 15, 2007.
The preview will provide media from across the country an exclusive
opportunity to preview this new portal, the first of its kind in Canada, via
an online webcast.

    When:  Thursday, March 15, 2007 (Online registration required)
           11:30 a.m. (AST) - 12:00 p.m. (AST)

    Who:   A media preview session presented by the new site's
           editor-in-chief, Dr. George Zhanel, Professor, Department of
           Medical Microbiology & Infectious Diseases, Faculty of Medicine,
           University of Manitoba.

    Why:   The rising prevalence of superbugs has become a significant health
           threat in hospitals and communities across Canada. CARA has
           created a resource that will become the authority on a wide range
           of antibiotic resistance and infection control issues.

           This special preview will demonstrate how this new resource will
           benefit media reporting on antibiotic resistance issues and help
           to clarify a variety of aspects related to this complex issue,
           -  the rise of antibiotic resistance in Canada;
           -  the growing presence of superbugs such as MRSA in hospitals
              and communities;
           -  solutions to combat this escalating threat.
