OTTAWA, April 15 /CNW Telbec/ - Assembly of First Nations National Chief
Phil Fontaine and James Weisgerber, Archbishop of Winnipeg and President of
the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, will announce details of an April
29, 2009 delegation to the Vatican. The National Chief will speak to Pope
Benedict XVI on the importance of an apology to Residential School Survivors
on behalf of the Catholic Church.
Approximately 75 per cent of all federally funded residential schools in
Canada were operated by the Catholic Church. Last June 11th, Prime Minister
Harper apologized to Survivors on behalf of the government and all Canadians.
