Media Bulletin - Returning Office advance poll opens this Saturday



    TORONTO, Feb. 18 /CNW/ - Qualified electors in the March 5 by-election in
Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock may vote at an advance poll starting Saturday,
February 21 in the Returning Office.

    Elections Ontario will pilot electronic vote tabulators equipped with
ballot marking devices during advance polls. The ballot marking device will
allow electors with a disability to mark their ballot independently using
audio headphones and a large keypad or a "sip and puff" device.
    Qualified electors who did not receive a Notice of Registration card and
are not on the Voters List can have their name added at the advance poll and
cast their ballot while there. To have their name added to the List, electors
must provide documents that show proof of identity and proof of residence.
    To receive their ballots, electors will be asked to state their name and
place of residence and show proof of identity to the poll officials. Electors
who are on the Voters List, but do not have proof of identity, can make a
declaration.
    To be eligible to vote, on Election Day a person must be: at least 18
years of age or older, a Canadian citizen, and a resident of the electoral
district of Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock.
    Persons who ceased to live in Ontario within the two years before polling
day may be entitled to vote under certain conditions and should contact
Elections Ontario for more information.
