Media Availability: Standing Committee to hear deputations on Green Energy Act



    SAULT STE. MARIE, ON, April 9 /CNW/ - The Standing Committee on General
Government will be holding hearings in Sault Ste. Marie on Tuesday, April 14
on the government's Green Energy Act. Representatives of the Ontario
Sustainable Energy Association and the Upper Lakes Environmental Research
Network are available to comment prior to the hearings.
    Roberto Garcia, the manager of services and membership for the Ontario
Sustainable Energy Association will be in Sault Ste. Marie to make a
deputation in support of the Green Energy Act. OSEA is a founding member of
the Green Energy Act Alliance, a network of agricultural groups, First
Nations, environmental organizations unions and industrial groups, which has
been campaigning for a Green Energy Act to address climate change and to
create thousands of new jobs.
    David DeYoe, a resident of Sault Ste. Marie, will also be making a
deputation in favour of the Green Energy Act. He is the interim executive
director of the Upper Lakes Environmental Research Network, which has been
conducting renewable energy workshops to rural communities in northern
Ontario. Dr. DeYoe and his team have also developed and delivered adult
education courses at Sault College on energy conservation, renewable energy
alternatives and green buildings.
