Media Alert/Photo Opportunity - Ride for Karen: Hundreds of cyclists ride 100 miles to benefit children with cancer



    TORONTO, Sept. 7 /CNW/ -

    
    WHAT:  Hundreds of Ontario cyclists will take to the roads in York,
           Peel, Caledon, Nottawasaga and Simcoe regions for the 6th annual
           Ride for Karen, benefiting children with cancer. There is a
           160 km (100 mile) "century ride" and 25km family fun ride that
           challenges cyclists and pays tribute to the life and legacy of
           Karen Tobias. Sponsored by Scotiabank, the ride has raised over
           $500,000 to date. Funds raised in 2007 will send 300 children
           with cancer to camp.

    WHO:   Kirk and Kris Tobias, Ride for Karen founders

           Scotiabank volunteers
           York Region Police, who have volunteered their time as ride
           escorts

    WHEN:  Sunday, September 9
           160km ride starts at 8:30 a.m.
           25km ride starts at 1:00 p.m.

    WHERE: There are several opportunities to take photos of the cyclists and
           interview participants along the route, including:

           8:30 a.m.     Start: St Joan of Arc High School,
                         1 St. Joan of Arc. Ave., Maple
           10:45 a.m.    Feed Zone: 3rd Road Line North (north of Highway
                         No.9), Connor
           1:00 p.m.     Lunch stop: Queensville Park, Queensville Sideroad,
                         East Gwillimbury
           1:00 p.m.     25km Family Ride starts: St Joan of Arc High School,
                         1 St. Joan of Arc. Ave., Maple
           2:00 p.m.     25km Family Ride Feed Zone: Keele St. and Teston
                         Road, York
           2:30 - 4 p.m. Finish and BBQ: St. Joan of Arc High School, 1 St.
                         Joan of Arc Ave., Maple
