Media alert - Eighth Glenn Gould Prize Laureate to be named at a press conference on February 14

    WHAT:   A press conference to announce the Laureate of the illustrious
            Eighth Glenn Gould Prize will be announced on February 14.
            Awarded every three years to a leading figure in the fields of
            music, the arts and communications for a lifetime of
            extraordinary creative achievement and innovation, living
            candidates of any nationality are eligible to be selected. The
            winner will receive a cash award of $50,000 and the opportunity
            to name an exceptional young musician from anywhere in the world
            to receive the $10,000 City of Toronto - Glenn Gould
            International Protégé Prize in Music. Previous Laureates are
            artists Sir André Previn, (2005); Pierre Boulez (2002); Yo-Yo Ma
            (1999); Toru Takemitsu (1996); Oscar Peterson C.C. (1993); Lord
            Yehudi Menuhin (1990), and R. Murray Schafer (1987). Previous
            Protégé winners are Roman Patkols (2005); Jean-Guihen Queyras
            (2002); Wu Man (1999); Tan Dun (1996), and Benny Green (1993).

    WHO:    The distinguished international jury will be in attendance.

              -  Anthony Minghella, Academy Award-winning director,
                 screenwriter and playwright
              -  Ben Heppner, renowned dramatic tenor
              -  Hélène Mercier, celebrated Paris-based pianist
              -  Peter Schickele, broadcaster, author and humourist
              -  Janice Price, prominent arts executive, and CEO of Luminato
              -  Paul Hoffert, Canadian recording artist, producer and
                 Internet guru and author
              -  Glen Morley, President, Glenn Gould Foundation
              -  Brian Levine, Executive Director, Glenn Gould Foundation
