Media Alert - "Change that Works. Care that Lasts." Patient-centred care the
focus of First Day of CMA's Annual Meeting

OTTAWA, Aug. 23 /CNW Telbec/ - Efforts to make Canada's health care system more patient focused will be the big topic for discussion on the first day of the Canadian Medical Association's (CMA) 143rd annual meeting of General Council. Physician-delegates from across the country will converge on Niagara Falls, ON from August 23-25, 2010 at the Sheraton on the Falls Hotel.

The first strategic session will be led by leading patient advocate and President and CEO of the Anemia Institute for Research & Education, Durhane Wong-Reiger. In this strategic session, physicians will discuss how a charter for patient-centred care can set out a new vision for our health care system, one that optimizes the patient experience and has a service focus.

The strategic session will be preceded by opening remarks from Ontario's Minister of Health, the Honourable Deb Matthews. The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada will also address the delegates following the strategic session.
