Media Advisory/Photo Opportunity - Mattamy Homes Tour de Blue in support of pain management research to cross finish line at SickKids

Stephanie Clayton, SickKids patient ambassador, joins 40 cyclists for
    the homestretch

TORONTO, Aug. 14 /CNW/ - Join us at The Hospital for Sick Children
(SickKids) this Sunday, August 17 at 4:00 p.m. to cheer on 40 cyclists led by
Peter Gilgan, CEO of Mattamy Homes as they cross the finish line of the
2008 Tour de Blue, a 300 kilometre ride.
The Tour de Blue team consists of corporate and individual donors who
have rallied to raise funds and meet the $500,000 target to support research
into paediatric pain management. At SickKids pain is a common, often complex
and disabling condition affecting children. Pain in child patients has not
been a focus of research and education in the past. However, now, with the
support of all donations received through the Tour de Blue, SickKids has been
able to improve its commitment to this important area. With improved pain
education and research, SickKids is able to significantly improve the
management of pain for all of our children. Mattamy Homes made a commitment in
2007 to raise over $1 million in support of pain management. The pain clinic
at SickKids is the largest of its kind in Ontario.
SickKids patient ambassador Stephanie Clayton, 6, will cycle with
Mr. Gilgan in the homestretch of the Tour de Blue. Stephanie has been a
patient at SickKids since she was one hour old. She was born with a rare
condition called omphalocele, causing her organs to grow on the outside of her
body. Although Stephanie's condition is serious and often causes her a lot of
pain, she continues to embrace the world with an outgoing and vibrant
personality. Stephanie will share her story during the official celebratory
proceedings and is available for media interviews.
