TORONTO, June 16 /CNW/ - The Law Society of Upper Canada will present
degrees of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa (LL.D.), to two distinguished members
of the profession: the Honourable Justice Frank N. Marrocco and the Honourable
Vibert A. Lampkin at ceremonies to welcome new lawyers to the profession at
Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto on June 19 and 20.
Justice Marrocco will be recognized for his distinguished legal career
and his many contributions to the profession. Former Justice Lampkin will be
recognized for his service to the judiciary, the legal profession and the
wider community in Canada - as well as in his native country, Guyana.
The Law Society will call more than 870 new lawyers to the Ontario Bar at
the three Toronto ceremonies.
As part of its Call ceremonies, the Law Society awards honorary
doctorates each year to distinguished people who exemplify the values held in
esteem by the legal profession. Law Society Treasurer Gavin MacKenzie will
present the honorary doctorates to both recipients. Justice Marrocco will
receive his LL.D. on June 19 and will then deliver the keynote address to new
lawyers attending the morning and afternoon ceremonies. Mr. Lampkin will
receive his LL.D. on June 20 and then deliver the keynote address at that
