VANCOUVER, June 22 /CNW/ - Online registration for media interested in
covering the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay will open on Friday, July 10
at www.vancouver2010.com under the website's media centre section.
Registration will close three weeks later, on Friday, July 31.
This registration period is the one and only opportunity for reporters,
photographers and videographers to gain access to dedicated media
positions along the torch relay route. Whether media are planning to
cover the entire Olympic Torch Relay or simply one community, they must
register in advance during this registration period.
The 2010 Olympic Torch Relay starts October 30, 2009 in Victoria, the
capital city of British Columbia, and will visit over 1,030 communities in
Canada from coast to coast to coast before arriving back in the host province
of British Columbia for the start of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games
on February 12, 2010. The 106-day event is presented by Coca-Cola and RBC and
supported by the Government of Canada.
By signing up, media outlets will also have access to media centres set
up at some torch relay celebration sites, media briefings and a secure website
featuring daily audio and video files, highlights and feature stories. Media
not planning to attend the torch relay may also choose to register solely for
access to this secure website. Registered photographers and camera operators
will also have the opportunity during the relay to request time on the media
vehicle that will travel in front of the torchbearer (note the media vehicle
will have limited capacity).
Starting on July 10, media will be able to access the application form
and further information about the registration process at
www.vancouver2010.com, as well as a detailed registration guidelines document
to help media with their planning.
Please note: Media outlets are responsible for covering the cost of their
flights, accommodation, meals, and transport while the relay is travelling.
