Media Advisory: Canada Updates Medical Advice about Menopause and Osteoporosis

OTTAWA, Jan. 19 /CNW Telbec/ - Canadian medical experts have released new
clinical guidelines and updated research information about menopause and
osteoporosis, especially as it relates to the use of hormone therapy, in this
month's Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Canada (JOGC). This Clinical
Update provides new guidance to Canadian women and their health-care providers
and addresses many of the controversial issues raised by the Women's Health
Initiative (WHI) study (2002).
The Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC) will
provide media with access to the authors of the Clinical Update via a
technical briefing/webcast this week. The webcast will explain key findings
from the clinical review, with a focus on hormone therapy, osteoporosis,
cardiac health and cognitive function.
The SOGC commissioned this review as a way to capture new developments
and clinical evidence since it published its 2006 Consensus Report on
Menopause.
