Media Advisory: Briefing on Elementary Teachers' Contract Negotiations



    OTTAWA, Sept. 16 /CNW/ - Four-year local collective agreements for all
elementary public school teachers and occasional teachers in Ontario expired
on August 31, 2008. Media representatives are invited to attend a briefing by
the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) on the status of local
and provincial contract negotiations.
    ETFO President David Clegg will address ETFO's key demands for the
negotiations and respond to recent statements and ultimatums by Ontario
Premier Dalton McGuinty and the minister of education regarding the
government's offer to teachers.
    The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents 73,000
elementary public school teachers and education workers across the province
and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
