Media Advisory - Waterloo to host pilot program to increase firefighter safety



    TORONTO, June 8 /CNW/ -

    
    What:     To reduce firefighter injuries and eliminate firefighter line
              of duty deaths, representatives from the Ontario Fire College
              will be training instructors to deliver the Fire Fighter
              Survival, Rescue and RIT Training course to firefighters across
              the province. The training is part of a pilot program.

              The course will focus on preventing line of duty deaths,
              survival tactics, saving a partner, helping other fire crews on
              the fire ground and how to assemble, deploy and function as a
              RIT (Rapid Intervention Team), a specialized team responsible
              for the rescue of other firefighters.

    Who:      Ed Godden, Academic Manager, Ontario Fire College
              Rick Hummel, Manager, Waterloo Region Emergency Services
              Training Centre
              Fire service students (20) from across the province

    When:     Monday, June 11 to Friday, June 15, 2007
              (Media are invited to attend on June 11 at 1:30 p.m. to observe
              training and skills demonstrations.)

    Where:    Waterloo Region Emergency Services Training and Resource Centre
              1001 Erb Road, Wilmont, Ontario
              (Travelling on the Hwy 401, take exit 278 and merge onto Hwy 8.
              Take the Conestoga Pkwy toward Stratford, then the Fischer-
              Hallman Rd exit, keeping left at the fork. Turn left onto
              Fischer-Hallman Rd N, then left at Erb St. W until 1001 Erb
              Road.)
