OTTAWA, March 26 /CNW Telbec/ - A leading U.S. security expert will issue
an open letter to Prime Minister Stephen Harper Tuesday and meet with Members
of Parliament to discuss the need for an international ban on anti-satellite
January's test of a Chinese anti-satellite weapon created a 20 percent
increase in low earth orbit space debris. Canada, with significant space
assets to protect and an international reputation for promoting space
security, is in an excellent position to provide leadership for a legal regime
that bans the testing and use of debris-creating anti-satellite weapons.
Dr. David Wright is Senior Scientist and Co-Director of the Global
Security Program at the Union of Concerned Scientists, and a Research
