Media Advisory - United Steelworkers' President Leo W. Gerard to address green jobs, industrial strategy at Great Lakes Cities Meeting in Toronto July 18



    TORONTO, July 17 /CNW/ - United Steelworkers' (USW) International
President Leo W. Gerard will speak on Friday July 18 at the Sheraton Centre,
Toronto, at 9 a.m. during a session on how to maintain and build on the
region's position as the third largest regional economy in the world.
    Gerard will be in the Dominion Ballroom at the Sheraton Centre for the
9-10 a.m. session titled: "Driving Prosperity, Vitality and Sustainability in
the Basin" (the Great Lakes - St. Lawrence River).
    Green jobs and the importance of implementing an industrial strategy to
create jobs by taking advantage of the coming boom for "green" technologies
and products, is a USW priority.
    In 2007, Gerard launched the Blue/Green Alliance, a joint project of the
USW and Sierra Club to promote "Good Jobs, A Clean Environment, and A Safer
World."
