Media Advisory - The last group of Canadian troops depart for Afghanistan



    VALCARTIER GARRISON, QC, April 30 /CNW Telbec/ - Approximately 60
soldiers of Joint Task Force Afghanistan (JTF AFG) Rotation 7 will go join
their colleagues in Afghanistan this Friday, May 1st, to take part in a
mission that aims to bolster security and reconstruction efforts.
    Media representatives are invited to meet Valcartier soldiers and their
family while they are all gathered at the Valcartier Garrison on May 1st,
between 3:15 p.m. and 4:15 p.m., before their departure for Jean Lesage
International Airport.
    This flight is the twenty-second since March 15, 2009, which will
complete the deployment of about 2750 troops of JTF AFG ROTO 7 on afghan soil.
    The Canadian Forces' contribution in Afghanistan, represented by JTF AFG,
consists of troops of various trades and belonging to units from different

    Media representatives who wish to attend the reunion of soldiers and
families in Valcartier are asked to contact the Public Affairs Office at
418-844-5000 ext 4688. They must also come to the front gate of the Valcartier
Garrison on May 1, 2009, at 3:00 p.m., to be escorted to the gathering area.

    Note: Media representatives will not be able to access secured zones or
    the strip of the Airport.
