Media Advisory - Teamsters to Protest at Sotheby's in Toronto

The Teamsters will ask Sotheby's to end lockout of art handlers...

TORONTO, Nov. 27, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - Teamster members and supporters will protest tomorrow outside Sotheby's Auction House at its auction of Canadian Art.

The protesters will call on Sotheby's to end the lockout at its New York Auction House. Sotheby's management in New York locked out its staff of forty-three art handlers almost four months ago.

Despite making $774 million in total revenue last year and the near doubling of its CEO's salary, Sotheby's continues to insist on the right to eliminate retirement for current employees, and the complete elimination of benefits and union protections for all new employees.

WHO:    Representatives from Teamsters Canada
WHAT:   Leaflets, banners and protest signs against Sotheby's lockout of its art handlers.
WHEN:  Monday, November 28 at 6 p.m.
WHERE:  Sotheby's Auction House, 9 Hazelton Avenue, Toronto M5R 2E1

The Teamsters Union represents 125,000 members in Canada in all trades. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, with which Teamsters Canada is affiliated, has 1.4 million members in North America.
