Media Advisory - Team Visa Olympian and National Skeleton Athlete Share Budgeting Basics With Students



    VANCOUVER, Feb. 6 /CNW/ - Sir Charles Tupper Secondary School hosts
launch of student-focused financial literacy resource, Choices & Decisions:
Taking Charge of Your Financial Life.

    
    WHAT:  Launch of Choices & Decisions: Taking Charge of Your Financial
           Life, an in-school financial literacy resource that helps
           educators teach money management to today's students.

    WHO:   To mark the release of the revised Choices & Decisions resource,
           Paralympian Ian Balfour and Jeff Pain of the national Skeleton
           team will speak candidly with students about the challenges of
           being an elite athlete; including how they manage their financial
           challenges and how good money management is a key contributor to
           their success both in their sport and daily life.

           Ian Balfour is a Paralympic athlete with a World Championship
           Alpine Skiing title, several Canadian championships and three
           Paralympic Games under his belt. As a Team Visa mentor, Ian shares
           his leadership and experiences with other Team Visa Olympians.

           Jeff Pain is a member of Canada's national Skeleton team, and has
           won nearly every title available in his sport. As a multiple World
           Cup champion, a two-time World Champion and Olympic silver
           medalist, Jeff is now focused on earning Olympic gold at the 2010
           Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

    WHY:   According to a 2008 Youthography(TM) poll commissioned by Visa,
           secondary school students from across Canada felt confident about
           managing money, yet only one third had created or maintained a
           budget.

           To help students make important decisions and take control of
           their finances, Visa Canada has revised Choices & Decisions:
           Taking charge of your financial life; an in-class teaching
           resource designed to help educate students about loans, banking
           services, saving and investing, credit cards and budgeting.
           Choices & Decisions has been approved by the British Columbia
           Ministry of Education.
