Higher Education and Research: An economic driver for Montreal

MONTRÉAL, April 25, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - The Canadian Club of Montreal is pleased to announce that Ms. Suzanne Fortier, Principal & Vice-Chancellor of McGill University, will address the business community at a luncheon on May 2.

Monday, May 2, 2016
Noon – 2 p.m. (speech at 1 p.m.)
Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth Hotel
900, René-Lévesque W. Blvd., Montréal

When we think about Montreal's top exports, we traditionally think about sectors such as aerospace, video games, and the arts. Professor Suzanne Fortier, the principal of McGill University, believes that higher education has earned a place on that list. Education is more than a supporting player in Montreal's economic ecosystem and cultural vibrancy – it is an important export sector unto itself. The city's higher education and research institutions employ thousands of people – the third biggest sector overall, and second for number of new jobs created – and many of those institutions rank among Montreal's top employers. The thousands of students who come to study in Montreal each year contribute hundreds of millions of dollars to the local economy. Driving long-term growth and creating immediate benefits alike, higher education is one of Montreal's essential export clusters.

An official photographer will be on site. A selection of photos may be obtained free of charge for the media through this website: http://goo.gl/BDMtwu

We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you to this most interesting luncheon presentation.
