of Students will be available for comment following the release of Statistics
Canada's annual tuition fee survey on the morning of Thursday, October 18.
Tuition fees in Canada have more than doubled in the past decade,
saddling students and their families with massive debt. Although several
provinces have frozen or regulated tuition fee increases this fall, financial
barriers remain the single largest obstacle to pursuing a post-secondary
Earlier in October, the Canadian Federation of Students released a report
on post-secondary education and student financial assistance, calling on the
federal government to replace the Canada Student Loans Program with a national
system of need-based grants.
The Canadian Federation of Students is composed of over one-half million
students across the country from more than 80 university and college students'
unions. Post-secondary students in Canada have been represented by the
Canadian Federation of Students and its predecessor organisations since 1927.
