OTTAWA, Sept. 14, 2011 /CNW/ - Canadian Federation of Students National
Chairperson Roxanne Dubois and regional student representatives will be
available to comment on Statistics Canada's annual tuition fee report
set to be released on Friday, September 16.
Tuition fees in Canada have increased at more than double the rate of
inflation in most provinces over the past two decades and have become
the single largest expense for university and college students. In
Canada, debt owed to the federal government from student loans has
surpassed $15 billion this past year. This figure does not include
provincial student loan debt or personal debt such as credit cards,
lines of credit, bank loans, and family loans.
The Canadian Federation of Students is Canada's largest student
organisation, uniting more that one-half million students in all ten
provinces. The Canadian Federation of Students and its predecessor
organisations have represented students in Canada since 1927.
