Media Advisory - Steelworkers set to expose TimberWest forest practices: News conferences in Vancouver and Salt Lake City Wednesday

VANCOUVER, BC and SALT LAKE CITY, UT, Sept. 25 /CNW/ - The United
Steelworkers will hold simultaneous news conferences on Wednesday, Sept. 26,
in Vancouver and Salt Lake City to draw attention to TimberWest Forest Corp.'s
questionable forest practices.
The Vancouver news conference is at 10:30 PDT Wednesday in the Terrace
Room, at the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel, 900 Canada Way Place.
Meanwhile, a delegation of striking union members will be in Salt Lake
City, during a conference of Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI Inc.), and
will hold a news conference at 11:30 MDT in the offices of the AFL-CIO, 2261
Redwood Drive. SFI certifies companies that meet its audited standards.
TimberWest is a member.
Both news conferences will include video footage and correspondence from
the company as evidence of its willingness to disregard standards of
responsible forest management.
"We are alarmed at TimberWest's forest management practices," says USW
Western Canada Director Steve Hunt. "We want government and regulatory bodies
to investigate and protect the interests of all British Columbians."
