Media Advisory - Research shows food bank clients spend 77% of income on rent

Daily Bread to release report of people struggling with hunger

    TORONTO, June 19 /CNW/ -

WHAT: Daily Bread Food Bank will release the results of the 2008 survey
of people who rely on food banks. The report, called
Who's Hungry: 2008 Profile of Hunger in the GTA, illustrates the
depth of the hunger crisis in the Greater Toronto Area. Over 250
survey volunteers conducted 1775 one-on-one interviews at 55 food
banks across the GTA, providing insight to the struggles food
bank clients face. It is the only survey of its kind in Canada.
The report also gives valuable perspectives as the Ontario
government formulates a comprehensive poverty reduction strategy.

Daily Bread's Gail Nyberg and Michael Oliphant will provide an
overview of the statistics of food bank use in our community and
discuss root causes, including housing, which drives food bank
use. Self-advocate, Charles Jergl, will share his experience of
living in poverty and what has moved him to become involved as an
            advocate.
