Media advisory - Red Cross assists families affected by hurricanes in Haiti

OTTAWA, Sept. 6 /CNW Telbec/ - Volunteers from the Haitian Red Cross are
currently assisting families affected by Hurricanes Gustav and Hanna.
To support these efforts, the International Federation of the Red Cross
and Red Crescent Societies has made a world-wide appeal for $3.4-million to
support the relief operations. The Haitian Red Cross will use these funds over
the next six months to provide emergency assistance for over 10,000 families.
The most urgent needs are medical equipment, water and sanitation, in
addition to shelter.
Canadian Red Cross relief worker Jean-Pierre Taschereau is currently in
Haiti in order to help to coordinate the assistance of the International Red
Cross.
