Media Advisory - Re-thinking Ontario Place recommendations to be released at Innis Town Hall Feb. 4

TORONTO, Feb. 3, 2013 /CNW/ - The recommendations of a blue-chip group of urban planners, design and landscape architects and others on the future of Ontario Place will be released at a public meeting at Innis Town Hall on Feb. 4.

The recommendations are the result of a one-day 'design charrette' held Dec. 1 which featured contributors that included urban planner Ken Greenberg, impresario David Mirvish, internationally-renowned architect Tarek El-Khatib and Ontario Place's founding architect, Eberhard Zeidler.

The design charette was organized in response to the recommendations of a special advisory panel, chaired by former MPP John Tory, which called for the development of condominiums and a hotel-resort on the site of Ontario Place.

Participants at the December gathering unanimously rejected the idea of a casino on the site of the adjacent Exhibition Place, saying the future of Ontario Place must be tied to the future of Exhibition Place.

December's design charrette and the Feb. 4 Innis Town Hall presentation have been organized by the Martin Prosperity Institute (University of Toronto), the Design Industry Advisory Committee and the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU).
