Media advisory - Oxford County municipal workers to rally against age discrimination on Wednesday

WOODSTOCK, ON, Feb. 27 /CNW Telbec/ - Oxford County public health workers
and their supporters will participate in a 'Stop Age Discrimination' rally at
6:00 pm, Wednesday, February 27, to raise awareness of the County's demands to
cut off benefits for workers over the age of 65. The rally will take place
outside the Oxford County Courthouse, where councillors are expected to
participate in a bi-monthly council meeting.
"Our members are united to stop discrimination against a group of workers
that should be respected for their experience and life long dedication to this
community," said Heather Grassick, CUPE national representative for Local
1146. "What is the message that this County is sending to our residents - that
it's ok to treat workers over 65 as second-class citizens? That's unacceptable
and our members are ready to fight this blatant discrimination." The workers
are facing a strike deadline on March 6.
