TORONTO, May 20 /CNW/ - Safe Kids Canada kicks off Safe Kids Week - May
25 to June 1 - by unveiling startling new data on product safety in the home
and encourages all parents to make their home a safe one. A new review of
child injury research by Safe Kids Canada demonstrates that Canadian homes may
not be as safe for children as many parents believe. There is an assumption
that the products we use within our homes are safe; but many items we use
regularly can cause serious harm to a child.
Between 1990 and 2007 there were over 1.6 million emergency room visits
for children under the age of 19 and in the past ten years nearly half of
these were a result of home products such as magnets, furniture, window cords,
bunk beds, trampolines and baby bath seats.
On May 25, 2009, Safe Kids Canada will be highlighting the riskiest
products for your child depending on their age and what steps you can take to
keep your children and home S.A.F.E.
