On Sunday, June 24, the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority is
hosting an event to unveil a commemorative cairn and announce the acquisition
of two properties under the Natural Spaces Program.
The two properties are located in the Township of Brock and are part of
the Beaver River Wetland Complex. They were acquired through the Ontario
Heritage Trust's Natural Spaces Land Acquisition and Stewardship Program (part
of the Ministry of Natural Resources' Natural Spaces Program).
The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority contributed half of the
funding to acquire the two properties, with a donation from the late Katharine
Symons in memory of her brother, Lieutenant Douglas Bond Symons. In
recognition of Ms. Symons' generous donation, a commemorative cairn will be
unveiled in memory of Lieutenant Symons, reported missing in the Aegean Sea in
1943 during the Second World War.

The Ontario Heritage Trust - the province's lead heritage agency - is
dedicated to identifying, preserving, protecting and promoting Ontario's
built, cultural and natural heritage for the benefit of present and future
generations. For additional information, visit www.heritagetrust.on.ca.
