Media Advisory - Natural Health Demonstrations to be held across Canada

Natural Health Practitioners Awareness Week, January 20 - 26, 2008

EDMONTON, Jan. 17 /CNW/ - The natural approach to health care, which is
also referred to as alternative and complementary health care (CAHC),
continues to increase in popularity. A May 2007 paper published by the Fraser
Institute reported that in 2006, over 54% of Canadians has accessed at least
one alternative therapy in the year prior to the survey.
It is estimated that there are currently 20,000 Natural Health
Practitioners in Canada.
With mainstream health care under pressure from spiralling costs and
shortages, the natural health care paradigm is touted as a new way of looking
at health promotion, the treatment of illness and the prevention of disease.
Natural Health Practitioners of Canada (NHPC) Executive Director Colleen
MacDougall says that "To meet their health care needs, consumers are
rightfully demanding more choice from the Canadian health care system."
Natural health demonstrations may include massage therapy, Thai Massage,
Shiatsu Jin Shin Do, Craniosacral Therapy, Reiki, Manual Lymph Drainage and
others.
