TORONTO, Jan. 19 /CNW/ - On Friday January 23rd, join ABC CANADA Literacy
Foundation, Founding Sponsor Honda Canada and Official Family Literacy Day
(FLD) World Record Attempt Sponsor, Oxford Learning, at a kick-off event for
the FLD World Record Attempt, a national, bilingual initiative encouraging
adults and children to engage in 30 minutes of reading together between 2:00
p.m. EST on January 23 and 2:00 p.m. EST on January 24. The initiative, a
prelude to Family Literacy Day 2009 celebrations on January 27, encourages
Canadians to read along and help break the Guinness World Record(TM) for "Most
Children Reading with an Adult, Multiple Locations." Canadians across the
country have embraced the initiative with hundreds of literacy events planned
at schools, libraries, literacy organizations, Oxford Learning Centres, YMCAs,
shopping centres, and community centres across the country. To date, over 900
events, with an estimated 147,000 participants, had registered to participate
in this record-breaking attempt. The current Guinness World Record of 78,791
was set across the U.S. in 2006.
