Media Advisory - More than 1000 patients benefit from virtual emergency stroke program



    TORONTO, June 23 /CNW/ - During Stroke month, the Ontario Telemedicine
Network (OTN) celebrates a significant milestone - the care and treatment of
more than 1000 patients through its Telestroke program, an emergency
telemedicine application that allows for the assessment & treatment of
patients experiencing a stroke via a "consult" with a remote neurologist.

    The event will include video greetings from the Honourable David Caplan,
Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, a telemedicine demonstration and
refreshments.
    The Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) is an independent, not-for-profit
organization funded by the Government of Ontario. "Telemedicine" (TM) is the
provision of interactive health care using modern telecommunications
technologies. Using two-way videoconferencing systems and tele-diagnostic
instruments, OTN helps deliver clinical care and professional education among
