Media Advisory - Moncton town hall meeting to discuss the impact of the economic crisis on families and communities

MONCTON, May 14 /CNW Telbec/ - The New Brunswick Union of Public &
Private Employees (NBUPPE) is sponsoring a town hall meeting in Moncton on
Tuesday, May 19th at 7 pm as a way to empower local residents to have their
voices heard about the impact of the current economic crisis on families and
communities and what our governments should be doing to help get everybody
through the crisis.
The NBUPPE is sponsoring the meeting but it is not a union event. The
Town Hall is open to everyone - anyone who can give the big picture about
what's happening in their community, anyone with an idea on what needs to
happen to make our economy work for everyone - so please come out and make
your voice heard.
"So far the debate about the current economic crisis has been dominated
by corporate executives, bankers and brokers," says Tom Mann, Executive
Director of NB Union. "We want to provide an opportunity for everyday experts
- that means everyday people who never get a chance to say anything about
decisions which affect their lives - to get engaged in the debate. Our plan is
to collect your very real and powerful stories, ideas and insights. At the end
we'll produce a report that will be presented to the provincial and federal
governments. The Town Hall is about you and your voice."
The Moncton town hall meeting is part of a national campaign called "A
people's response to the economic crisis." The national campaign includes a
series of town hall meetings in communities across Canada and it includes an
interactive online component at www.peoplesresponse.ca
