Premier Social Event Celebrates Hope, Healing and Community Heroes
OTTAWA, March 6 /CNW Telbec/ - Former first lady Margaret Trudeau is
being presented with a 2007 Inspiration Award at the Royal Ottawa Foundation
for Mental Health's prestigious annual Gala celebration on Thursday, March 8th
at the Ottawa Congress Centre.
Mrs. Trudeau is being recognized for her courage in stepping forward last
May to publicly share her personal struggle with mental illness.
The annual event features the presentation of Inspiration Awards to
members of the community who have overcome tremendous personal adversity to
advance mental health reform, improve the delivery of services to patients and
their families, or reduce the stigma of mental illness.
In addition to the presentation of a community award to Mrs. Trudeau,
his year's Inspiration Award recipients also include:
- Jackie Schroeder, who speaks openly to high school students about what
it's like to live with a mental illness in order to remove the fear of
people living with schizophrenia and provide encouragement and hope to
- Gerry McGee, who is dedicated to breaking down the stigma of mental
illness through personal example and by co-founding the Mood Disorders
Ottawa support group; and
- Heather Hennigar, who courageously volunteered to become the face of
mental health for the Foundation's innovative 'You Know Who I Am'
One of the region's most exciting social events, the Inspiration Awards
Gala is a key fundraising activity for mental health research, technology,
programs and patient care.
The evening combines culinary delights, incredible entertainment,
networking opportunities and a Silent and Live Auction featuring exclusive
