Media Advisory - Many Doors Open Ontario events still to come!



    TORONTO, Aug. 27 /CNW/ - With half of this year's Doors Open Ontario
events taking place in September and October, visitors have an opportunity to
explore and enjoy many of the province's unique heritage sites throughout the
fall season.
    Doors Open Ontario provides a chance for families to embark on the ideal
"staycation," encouraging them to discover the many fascinating heritage sites
located close to home. Ontario's architectural showpieces, community landmarks
and gardens are waiting to be explored - all free of charge.
    The Ontario Heritage Trust is delighted to partner with Henry's to offer
the Doors Open Ontario 2009 Digital Photo Contest. Attend upcoming events to
snap interesting photos of heritage architecture, artifacts, natural spaces or
crowds of people enjoying their Doors Open experiences. Prizes will be awarded
for outstanding photos. The deadline for entries and submissions is October
31, 2009. Full contest rules and regulations are available at

    Doors Open Ontario was launched in 2002 by the Ontario Heritage Trust, an
agency of the Government of Ontario dedicated to identifying, preserving,
protecting and promoting Ontario's heritage for present and future
generations. Through the program, communities are able to showcase local
heritage while attracting visitors to a unique cultural tourism experience
that boosts the local economy. To date, nearly three million visits have been
made to heritage sites during community events.
