Media Advisory - Leading authorities on immigration and national security converge on Toronto to discuss Canadian immigration policy and terrorism



    TORONTO, June 26 /CNW/ - Join immigration policy and security experts as
well as journalists who have written extensively about immigration and
terrorism for a conference in Toronto June 28-29 to discuss immigration policy
and how it relates to the threat of terrorism in Canada and the United States.
    The two-day conference hosted by The Fraser Institute, Canada's leading
independent research organization, aims to examine and compare Canadian, U.S.
and European government policies for dealing with border security and
terrorism. The objective is to analyze strengths and weaknesses in these
policies and formulate recommendations that could provide a better balance
between immigration and national security.
    The conference sessions will feature discussions on countering extremists
in immigrant communities, balancing liberty and national security, controlling
unwanted immigration, and Sikh extremism in Canada. Some of the featured
speakers include:

    Bat Ye'or -  World-renowned author of Islam and Dhimmitude: Where
    Civilizations Collide and Eurabia: The Euro-Arab Axis.

    Salim Mansur - political science professor at the University of Western
    Ontario, regular columnist with the Toronto Sun and a senior fellow with
    the Canadian Centre for Democracies.

    Kim Bolan - reporter with the Vancouver Sun and author of Loss of Faith:
    How the Air-India Bombers Got Away With Murder.

    Steven Emerson - authority on Islamic extremist networks, financing, and
    operations, and executive director of the Investigative Project on
    Terrorism.

    Stewart Bell - veteran reporter and foreign correspondent and author of
    Cold War: How Canada Nurtures and Exports Terrorism Around the World.

    James Bissett - former executive director of the Canadian Immigration
    Service, Canadian Ambassador to Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, and Albania, and
    Canadian High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago.
